Technology in the healthcare sector is continuing to expand, with the creation of a digital health park in Lancashire the latest plan to be announced.
The new business hub will be located on a section of land off Euxton Lane in Chorley and is set to bring 700 new jobs to the area.
The move follows from discussions between Euxton Lane Developments, Chorley Council, North West Coast Academic Health Sciences Network and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust.
Digital products and services needed in the health sector will be developed by both start-up businesses and high-tech global companies, as the industry moves towards a more technologically-advanced way of working.
Ken Whitaker, from Euxton Lane Developments, said: “We are excited to be submitting an application that would be the first step in positioning Chorley at the forefront of the digital health sector in the region.
“This development could help secure hundreds of skilled IT and health jobs and attract the leading businesses in this sector to the area.”
Not only will the business hub bring more jobs to the sector, the plans also include the rollout of new care facilities, light industrial units and up to 125 homes.
Assistive and interactive technology is used in digital healthcare to enhance patient treatment, clinical research and prescription management.
The latest digital products will also enable elderly people to be looked after at home. Such assistive technologies could include gadgets with sensors for lamp and light activation, controls for dishwashers and washing machines, and systems for making access to beds and chairs easier.
The new digital business hub will help to make daily living much safer and hassle-free.
