My fears for High School

When children go up to high school they have worries and hopes. I have a lot of fears, which most children have, but I guess I have more than them.

[angry teacher] My biggest fear at high school is not getting enough help in any subject at all. I do not know who to ask for help, I certainly don't want to be looked at by some of the teachers as if I was lazy and not wanting to learn because they did not know that I am dyslexic.

Another fear is not getting enough help in maths when I am stuck. The reason why I don't get stuck just now is because I get a lot of help from my teacher, she reads over the questions until I understand them.

Another worry is English. My spelling is awful, I can never remember how to spell tons of words and I can never remember what new words mean.

[frustrated pupil] A very worrying worry is copying off the black board. I get a headache because I have to look up at the board every half second and write down the information. I have difficulty reading from screens and posters. I can read from an overhead projector but I do not think that the high school will let me carry one around with me.

[boy kneeling and pleading] I would hate to be in bottom class for everything with all the people that do not want to learn and with a teacher that thinks I stupid. I am also afraid in case I don't finish my work on time and get into trouble. Then I would have to take my unfinished work home, plus all my homework. Basically I will not have any time to myself.

French is a totally different matter. If I cannot do English very well how on earth am I going to learn French!!! I will never remember what words mean or how to pronounce them. The best thing that I am looking forward to is the tests, (ha ha!).

[confused compass] I already go to band at [name of school] so I know a small part of my way around the school. Apart from that small part of the school, I will most likely get lost. I will not turn up at classes on time and I will probably turn up at the wrong class.

I am looking forward to lots of different things at high school like making new friends and going to after school clubs. I am also looking forward to some of the subjects like craft and design, computer work and cooking.
