11 steps to self help in writing and reading

An adult dyslexic person will find that the following eleven steps should help to make it easier to read and write more fluently.
  1. Scan the words that you can’t read with the Reading Pen, or solve spelling problems with a Franklin pocket electronic dictionary;

  2. Take notes, record seminars, record reminders with a dictating machine/note taker;

  3. Check that vision problems are not making reading difficult for you;

  4. Use all the facilities of a computer;

  5. Listen to written work with Text-to-Speech (Texthelp Read & Write) which also helps with spelling and word prediction;

  6. Use the Internet for research and email (and fun!); BrowseAloud can make websites speak.

  7. Remember appointments and names/addresses with a personal organiser;

  8. Speed up your writing with speech recognition software;

  9. Organise your ideas and projects visually with Inspiration;

  10. Improve your study skills with Wordswork;

  11. Read from print with a scanner and Kurzweil 3000.
